Paying It Forward, via Taffeta and Lace

Donate My Dress is rounding up prom dresses. Have one?

It's just that all that sparkly netting and taffeta and silk can take up a lot of room in a closet.

And a lot of mental room, too. Are you hanging onto that formal you wore last spring, or a couple of years back, with no plans to wear it again? There are a lot of fancy frocks keeping company with the backs of wardrobes out there. And there are a lot of girls who want to go to prom, but who don't have the means to buy a formal, who would look fantastic in that gown you keep hanging onto, with no real reason.

Donate My Dress is all about pairing pretty formals with young women on the verge of some major event, be it a prom or other party. The org has gone nationwide -- "Twilight" star Ashley Greene's support has helped put the word out -- and there is an online charity auction going on now to support the cause.

Want to own a Leona Lewis gown? The auction ends March 25.

If you do have formals, or your daughter does, or a friend, and you want to donate them, read more here. There are locations around Los Angeles taking dresses now.

Farewell, taffeta, button-up-the-back ballgown with little butterflies around the neckline. Go on and be grand.
