Rock Fashion Week to Invade Paramount Studios

A fourth ring has been added to the LA Fashion Week circus: Rock Fashion Week, which is slated to debut just after Market Week in October. WWD reports the event will be held at Paramount Studios from October 28-31, featuring three to four shows and an afterparty each night. It's being produced by a New York-based company called Rock Media and Entertainment, which already produces similar events in New York and Miami. Although the event won't be open to the public, the trade rag tells us that celebrities, editors, retailers, Paramount staffers and their contacts will all be accommodated.

We're not sure what to think about this. First of all, although the story reports designers will be mostly local, it also notes the show will be closing with New York designer Richie Rich. We're not opposed to bringing in some talent from other cities, but for a show that's supposedly celebrating LA fashion, would it not make more sense to give the headlining slot to an LA designer? We'll also be interested to see what the the link-up with Paramount will bring—will it result in a higher caliber of celebrity than we're used to seeing, or an IMG-style affair, more concerned with stars and sponsors than the fashion itself? Anyone who's experienced the New York or Miami events, give us the dirt in a comment.
