Swap-O-Rama-Rama

Like so many others, we've been dragging out clothes from the depths of our closets -- the '80s-inspired overalls, the too-chunky belts -- and wondering how we can refresh our wardrobes without opening our wallets too wide. With that in mind, Swap-O-Rama-Rama, taking place at The Shrine on Sunday, November 16, could not be more timely.

Wendy Tremayne, the founder of Swap-O-Rama-Rama, not only is a dedicated proponent of recycling in creative ways, but she completely gets that desire to doll-up the tired stuff that's already cluttering our closets. Her cunning, fabric-forward plan? Ask people to show up with a bag of unwanted clothing (plus a small donation). Ask people to dump those bags into a big, soft, pick-through-it pile. Ask people to paw through the goodies, taking whatever they like. Then show people how to DIY-up their fashion-y finds via sewing, cutting and other crafty means. Voila! Other people get the stuff you no longer want and you get some new-old items to which you can add your own fresh frills. Sartorial satisfaction achieved.

We're already casting a hard eye on the old armoire. Farewell, beige pants that, after we got them home, seemed just too beige-y. Adieu, little lace vest with the faux crystal buttons we wore exactly once. Happy trails, plaid cape we vow to pull out every winter but never do...

Sunday, November 16, 11AM-5PM
The Shrine Auditorium, 649 Jefferson Boulevard, Los Angeles
