Talking Points: All Golden Globes Edition

So many photo galleries to eyeball this morning, so much fashion criticism, so much so much. Plus, aren't all our opinions formed while we watch the show? The follow-up is just to support our feelings...

Country-Pride Toenail: Emma Thompson showed up with the Union Jack painted on her big toenail. Emma Thompson, do you just get fantastic-er all the time? If you've never read Ms. T's diary of making "Sense & Sensibility," it's a must.

Sumptuous Shade: Mustard/yellow. Worn by Freida Pinto of "Slumdog Millionaire" (beautifully). Now that we think about it, Michelle Williams wore a similar hue at the "Brokeback Mountain" Oscars a few years back. We're no stylists, but it seems like that color is the ticket to get people talking on Monday morning...

Hats Off To... Tom Hanks and Drew Barrymore. No fashion commentary here, but just applause for their general demeanor and vibe. While some stars slink into awards shows looking like they'd like to be anywhere else on the planet, Tom and Drew always are smiley, laughing, keeping it upbeat and positive. They must know like a zillion people envy them, and that they show gratitude and enjoyment is satisfying to us, the home viewers. We like our stars shiny, show-must-go-on, "Hooray for Hollywood" etc...

Shush! Nancy O'Dell and Robert Downey Jr. had problems hearing each other on the red carpet. We're not ones to shush the fans -- they should scream all they like -- but maybe next year a "quiet space" can be introduced so we may better hear about shoes and next projects and favorite co-star anecdotes. Maybe a futuristic glass bubble? Brainstorming here...

Ricky's Beer: Mr. Gervais brought his drink on stage. Tres old-school Tinseltown. Which got us curious about what everyone else was sipping (we saw plenty of empty bubbly bottles). Maybe that should be a suggestion for next year? Everyone has to tote their glass on stage? Okay, already we're thinking this is not a good idea. Entertaining, yes, but not good.

Laura Dern. Sally Hawkins. Beyonce. Salma Hayek. Kristin Scott Thomas. David Duchovny. All looking very fine. And Paul Giamatti, the worried voice and smart-sexy horn-rims? 4ever. Or, as John Adams might say, 4-score-and-ever...
