Tipping the Hat to Tailors, Those Sartorial Superstars

June 3 is National Tailors Day, which seems a perfectly timed holiday to us. After all, we're changing over from spring to summer, from chiller weather to balmier days, from seersucker to linen... Oh, no seersucker? Us neither. Which is too bad, really. Because seersucker might be the loveliest of fabrics. For croquet playing. Which we never do, but want to do, all the time.

Pause now to salute the craftsperson who hems while you haw, who takes skirts up and lets shirts out, who keeps the darts and buttons and zippers all in the right spot. Here are five that often get the shout-out around town...

Jack Taylor of Beverly Hills: He made suits for Frank and Elvis. There's a movie about him. Need we say more? A class act.

Lizon Tailors: A favorite on Venice. Do you really need all those long dresses for summer? Make 'em short. Shorter...

Peter Raney: Men's suits, formal wear (so take your Golden Globes gown there). Also, a Hong Kong location.

Hans the Tailor: Full of headshots (hello, Kyle McLachlan) and expert tailors. Susan is a sweetheart. On 3rd near The Grove.

Eddie's Tailor Shop: Downtown, and skilled at the hemming of denim. New life for those dingy dungarees.
