When we watch the holiday films of yore, so often the tots in the movie are gussied up in ribbons and velvet and are enjoying an outing of a seasonal nature.
Of course, in the real world, opportunities to gussy the tots up don't come along all that often; we're dashing about and running errands and the whole brood is looking mighty uncasual and highly unvelveted indeed.
But going old-school for an afternoon is a welcome respite at the holidays, especially when there are sweets and cookies involved. The Ritz-Carlton will be doing just that downtown, at its Children's Holiday Tea.
The dates are Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8.
There will be the cookies in Christmas-y shapes -- think snowmen and such -- as well as warm apple cider and milkshakes. Slightly heartier fare like ham-and-cheese croissants and PB&Js will be on the tables as well. Carlton the Elf, the Ritz's mascot around this time of year, will read a story, too.
We suddenly want nothing more than to have our own holiday mascot. Perhaps Santa will bring us one if we ask?
The kid's price is fifty dollars, and adults are sixty-five; tax and gratuity are extra.

Just be sure to gussy everyone up in the velvet and bows; these get-fancy moments truly don't come around in real-life very often. And if we get to play at being in a holiday movie for a few hours, even better.
