Even gruff cab drivers are warming up to those cute little hybrids, reports the Los Angeles Times' Bob Pool, who spends a day at the Burbank Airport, interviewing passengers getting picked up by the hybrids (United Independent Taxi is one of the companies that use the hybrids). One complicating factor in allowing taxis to use hybrids: Murder. Yes, murder. Given that so many cabbies were getting killed, Los Angeles started requiring cabs to have safety partitions, but the partitions are harder to put in hybrids--city officials are considering using cameras instead.
