Party On, Thai Town: New Signage Unveiled

advertisement

Blogger Militant Angeleno stopped by last weekend's Thai Cultural Day, held at the Barnsdall Park, an event that saw politicians unveiling new (and classic WPA-era) signage that (pending city approval) will go up in the neighborhood. Last June, Thai Town (and Historic Filipinotown) was designated as a Preserve America Community, a move that makes the neighborhood eligible for federal grants (similarly, Chinatown has been granted as a Preserve America community). As Militant Angeleno notes, "...Thai Town is still a dynamic work in progress, especially in these economic times, and most especially since only two buildings in all of Thai Town are actually owned by Thai American entities." More via his post, but sadly, there is no word on the status of the greatest Thai Town building of them all: The Thai Hot Dog insurance stand. [Image on left via Militant Angeleno]
