Twilight for Colorado Palms?

Los Angeles city officials have long been saying the era of palm trees (the non-native trees are too hard to care for) is over, although developers still continue to plant them (case in point: The Viridian on Wilshire). Over in Pasadena, the city council will decide next month whether to phase out the popular Mexican fan palms along Colorado Boulevard, reports the Pasadena News-Star. "The Mexican fan palm - a tall, thin tree that quickly identifies this length of Colorado Boulevard - is the current species of choice, though officials said the historic icon is "not as high-ranking" as other trees when measured by criteria recently approved by Pasadena City Council."
