Charity Wedding Gown Sale

We love a wedding-gown extravaganza -- the mountains of tulle and lace and twinkly beadage -- but we really love it when it is for a good cause. The Charity Wedding Gown Sale, on now at the Hyatt Regency in Century Plaza, is part of the Brides Against Breast Cancer National Tour; money raised goes to grant wishes to people after they've received the diagnosis.

Priced under $800 for the most part (note that the couture stuff is marked from 25-75 percent off), the dresses have been donated from a bevy of sources, including individuals and designers, as well as the folks who make 'em and sell them. Some of the ivory-and-champagne frocks are priced at $99.  Considering the price tags of many nuptial parties nowadays, finding a dress on the cheap is positively brag-worthy.

While over half the gowns donated are new, the dresses donated by individuals would surely catch our eye. The idea that a bride could say her "I dos" in a gown another woman spent her happy day is very appealing.  Karmic, almost.  We think there's a bit of magic to be had in wearing something that's been worn before, and there's definite magic when the cash paid for the gown goes to help so many people.
