El Monte Store Among Sears Closures

A Sears store in El Monte is one of three in California that will close as part of more than 100 store closings announced earlier this week.

Sears Holdings Company released a list Thursday of 79 stores that will close. Between 100 and 120 closing are expected after the company's Sears and Kmart stores suffered a dismal holiday sales season.
The El Monte store is at 3610 Peck Road. Two Sears stores in the San Diego area also were on the list of stores set for closure.
Officials could not immediately provide details on how many employees would be affected by the closures and when the stores will close.
More store locations to close will be announced at a later date.
The closings were another indication of the 125-year-old company's ongoing financial woes. The company has struggled for years with decreasing sales and stores that failed to compete with retail giants like Wal-Mart and Target.
