A stretch of Sunset Boulevard that hasn't been resurfaced in 30 years will force Friday night club-goers to find another way to their destinations.

The lunar landscape-like stretch between LaBrea and Highland will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday.

That means Santa Moncia Boulevard, Hollywood Boulevard and other nearby east-west streets probably will be jammed with club crawlers looking to avoid orange plastic cones en route to doors blocked by red velvet ropes.

Businesses on the closed stretch of Sunset include an In 'N Out Burger and Burger King, IHOP, and The Happy Ending -- a bar with a deck area that faces a usually bustling Sunset Boulevard. Obviously, there's a Starbucks in there somewhere, too.

City officials said it's the best time to complete the much-needed resurfacing.

"By being able to do this on a Friday night, we've been able to pool all the resources that the city has," said B. Brian Davis, of the Department of Public Works.
