Yes, it's Valentine's Day, but don't make the mistake of driving under the influence, or you may end your night on a date with the LAPD.

After an increase of DUI-related traffic collisions, police planned to spend Valentine's Day on the prowl in the Harbor Area.

"Harbor Area has experienced a 133 percent increase in DUI-related traffic collisions in 2009 as compared to 2008," said the Los Angeles Police Department on its website.

"The purpose of the DUI saturation patrols is to reduce the number of traffic collisions involving intoxicated drivers, as well as the number of hit-and-run traffic collisions," the department said.

The DUI saturation patrols will be in effect from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Funding for the patrols comes from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
