A Purple Heart and 23 military medals that were stolen from a Northern California man during the Lake Oroville evacuations were found and returned to him Sunday. The Yuba City police chief personally returned the medals to Mike Pomeroy, a Vietnam War veteran, less than 24 hours after the department called for the community's help in finding the suspected burglars' pickup truck. Shots were fired amid a standoff as a suspect was holed up in a Riverside home that caught on fire.
