The University of Southern California marched on with its commencement ceremony despite rain, nixing umbrellas and instead waterproofing graduates with ponchos. Michelle Valles reports for the NBC4 News at Noon on Friday, May 15, 2015. (Published Friday, May 15, 2015)

Rain brought by an unseasonably cold spring storm did not stop USC's outdoor commencement ceremony Friday morning.

Some of the school's ceremonies, including the main ceremony at the school's Alumni Park, were not going to be covered, meaning many students and their guests would have to brave the inclement weather, rare for Southern California, without any umbrellas.

"The Main USC Ceremony is an outdoor ceremony and will not be covered. Umbrellas are not permitted during the ceremony," said a school advisory posted online.

Ponchos were allowed at the USC ceremony, however.
