More High Temps, Surf Expected Today
Forecasters are issuing a high-surf advisory Thursday afternoon as some west-facing beaches could see waves up to 14 feet.

The calendar says January but the temperature says June! Californians are out enjoying the summer weather.
Big surf and high temperatures are expected again today across Southern California, as another day of summer-like temperatures hit before cooling a few degrees on Sunday, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service will issue a high surf advisory from 4 p.m. Thursday until 9 a.m. Saturday along the Los Angeles County coast. The advisory will also be in effect from 10 p.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday along the Orange County coast, where a coastal flooding advisory also will be in effect during that period.
The high surf will produce waves of between from 6 to 12 feet, forecasters said. Some west-facing beaches could see sets as high as 14 feet. Waves in Orange County could see sets in the 6-to-10 foot range. The big waves are the result of a large swell churned up by a strong storm system in the central Pacific Ocean.
Some areas during high tide could see minor flooding, according to the National Weather Service.
Off the coast, a small craft advisory will be in effect through this afternoon and a gale warning, from this afternoon through late tonight.
As the high surf begins pounding the coast, several days of unusually high heat will be coming to an end, although temperatures will remain mild.
Temperatures along the beaches are expected to be 78 degrees; inland could reach 84 degrees; the valleys are expected to be 86 degrees, forecasters said.
Temperatures were expected to fall another several degrees Saturday before beginning to climb slightly on Sunday, according to forecasters.
Several heat records for a Jan. 4 were set in the region on Thursday - 91 in San Gabriel, breaking the record of 87 set in 2001; 89 at UCLA, six degrees higher than the record 83 set in 2001; 88 in Long Beach, besting the record of 65 set in 1969; 85 at LAX, compared to 82 on Jan. 4 2001.
