Pea-Sized Hail Strikes San Gabriel Foothills

Residents of Glendora, San Dimas and La Verne are surprised by a hail storm Sunday night.
A cold weather system brought pea-size hail early Monday to several eastern Los Angeles County communities at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains.
The hail storm struck Glendora, San Dimas and La Verne early Monday morning, causing roads to become slippery, and was accompanied by several lightning strikes, said National Weather Service meteorologist Andrew Rorke.
The NWS forecast snow levels of between 3,000 and 4,000 feet and said up to three inches of snow may accumulate.
"Snow accumulations could affect travel over the Tejon Pass on Interstate 5," according to an NWS advisory.
NWS forecasters said light showers Monday morning would douse parts of the Southland, where the chance of measurable precipitation stood at between 20 and 30 percent and highs were projected to be in the 50s and 60s.
