12 People Overcome By Heat at Pierce College Track & Field Event

    Paramedics responded Thursday to Pierce College in Woodland Hills to treat several athletes who were overcome by heat. 

    A rescuer told NBCLA two athletes were in critical condition and eight others needed to be transported to nearby hospital.  Two other students were treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.

    NBCLA learned the athletes were participating in a track meet sponsored by Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

    Ten people were transported in ambulances from 6201 North Winnetka Ave. around 4:30 p.m.

    A campus weather station reported the high Thursday was 97 degrees.
