Summer in March: SoCal Basks in Unusually Warm Weather

Less than 10 days from the start of spring, Southern California is again basking in unusually warm weather, and even higher temperatures are in the forecast, with highs in the 90s expected in the coming days.

"The jet stream is parked in just a way that keeps the southern half of the country dry and warm," said NBC4 meteorologist Shanna Mendiola. "Where we’re positioned, a strong ridge of high pressure is keeping the summer-like heat in place for the next few days as little movement is expected until the middle of next week."

In spite of the heat and some wind, no wildfire warnings have been issued.

Friday's highs in Los Angeles County included 65 degrees in Avalon; 74 at Los Angeles International Airport; 72 on Mount Wilson; 82 at Long Beach Airport; 79 in Palmdale; 78 in Lancaster; 81 in downtown Los Angeles; 83 in Burbank; 84 in Pasadena; 82 in Saugus; and 85 in Woodland Hills.

The day's lone high was set in Sandberg in northwest Los Angeles County, where the temperature reached 74, breaking the previous record of 73 set in 2015.

Temperatures will generally be about a degree higher Saturday and climb by several degrees in some areas on Sunday, when the high at LAX is forecast to rise to 78. Temperatures will be in the high 80s in the San Gabriel Valley on Sunday and Monday and climb to 90 in Woodland Hills on both days. On Tuesday, temperatures will fall several degrees, remaining in the 80s in some communities but reverting to the 70s in others.

Highs in Orange County Friday included 70 in Newport Beach; 72 in Laguna Beach; 85 in Anaheim; 83 at Fullerton Airport; and 86 in Yorba Linda.

Orange County temperatures will generally remain in the 70s and 80s through at least Thursday -- the high 80s in some communities -- but there will be exceptions, notably in Yorba Linda, where highs will be 94 Sunday and Monday before falling to 88 on Tuesday.
