‘My Son Will Never be The Same': Man Paralyzed in Shooting That Also Killed Cousin

Family and friends mourned the loss Thursday of two cousins shot at a liquor store in Banning last week as police searched for the killer.

Brody Baca, 20, of Banning, allegedly shot Alex Marcotte, 18, of Banning, and Dylan Artea, 19, after an argument about 10:50 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of East Ramsey Street. Marcotte died at a hospital. Artea was paralyzed from the waist down.

Jeanette Burns, Alex's mother, said her son was her everything.

"No matter how manly he was to everybody else, he was always, always my baby," she said through tears.

Kelly Blistan, Dylan mother, said her son is on a breathing machine and can't talk. But she knows he is heartbroken and has set up a gofundme site to raise money for his care.

"My son will never ever be the same without his cousin and I won't be the same without him," she said.

Police did not specify how they identified Baca as a suspect, but said he is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Baca should not approach him and contact authorities immediately.
