Charles Phoenix in 3-D

The comedy-historian is going 3-D for two special shows.

3-D is having a huge comeback nowadays, but, of course, it started way back when, in an era when the little paper glasses had to fit neatly over Brylcreem-laden 'dos or prim '50s flips.

Charles Phoenix loves that era. And LA's own mirthful look-back-ian, the man with the huge, huge, huge box of vintage slides, is celebrating the early days of 3-D with two slideshows.

The dates are May 9 and 16, and Mr. Phoenix says the tickets are zipping.

Well, of course. Because 3-D slides from 50 or 60 years ago. The peach-colored cars and breadbox-sized houses and a sky that always seemed to take on the hue of just-baked ham in every other photograph. What is not to like?

The shows are at the Downtown Independent. If you've been to a Charles Phoenix presentation, you know there will be banter, some saucy innuendo, some cheeky asides, and loads of outrageous retro goodness all around.

Just don't *over*-cream your hair. You want those glasses to stay on.
