Famous Songwriter + Famous Magician = Music Magic

Two great Angelenos have united on a new show.

It's pretty much assured that you'll have "Chim Chim Cher-ee" in your head for the read of the day if you read the rest of this post.

Or the Tiki room theme. Or all the songs for "The Jungle Book" and "Mary Poppins." Or, wait for it: "It's a Small World, After All" (now we went and did it, unleashing the biggest earworm of all). One man, along with his brother Robert, wrote all those songs -- his name is Richard Sherman -- along with many, many other Disney and movie hits of the last several decades.

Now Mr. Sherman has teamed up with a friend he's known since he was a kid to put on a show. The show is called "Supercalifragalistic" and it is happening on Friday, February 26th and Saturday, February 27th in Hollywood.

That friend? Only Milt Larsen, the much-loved, known-the-world-over co-founder of the Magic Castle.

We've written with affection about the Magic Castle. We've written with affection about Disney (yep, we have visited just about every Snow White-based landmark in LA).

So when we got the chance to chat with the two men for an hour at the Magic Castle last week, well, we felt like we'd just shaken hands with a chimney sweep (read: lucky). They brought us up to speed on the El Capitan show, where they're presenting work from a new comedy-musical they're written. Mr. Sherman will play some of his big hits. Joanne Worley (!) will be performing.

An hour with these two talented gentlemen? Total. Fan. Crush. We admit it.

And, by the way, Richard ShermanOscar winner. 1964, for "Chim Chim Cher-ee." Everyone is prepping for the Academy Awards; you could be one of the few people in the world to spend the weekend before the Oscars watching a real Oscar winner, right across from the Kodak Theatre.

Lovers of all things magic and movie-ish and Disney and Oscar: See this show. The end. Bonus: There's an opening night $5 off deal for NBC readers. Call 818-845-3110 and use the code MCAEC.
