Having Killed Voldemort, David Yates Ready to Take a “Stand”

Well it turns out the rumors were true...

Last month it was learned that David Yates, director of the last four "Harry Potter" films was trying to choose his next project, and was considering an Al Capone project with Tom Hardy, and an adaptation of Stephen King's "The Stand," both if which could be broken into multiple films.

Now it appears he's chosen the latter, according to HitFix, and the film will reunite him with screenwriter Steve Kloves, who penned the "Harry Potter" films. Bring it.

"The Stand" is a monster of a book, weighing in at more than 800 pages, and depicting a post-apocalyptic vision of an America in which he whole system breaks down. Here's the synopsis from King's website:

One man escapes from a biological weapon facility after an accident, carrying with him the deadly virus known as Captain Tripps, a rapidly mutating flu that - in the ensuing weeks - wipes out most of the world's population. In the aftermath, survivors choose between following an elderly black woman to Boulder or the dark man, Randall Flagg, who has set up his command post in Las Vegas. The two factions prepare for a confrontation between the forces of good and evil.

In 1994 there was a TV minis-series based on "The Stand" that didn't quite work, Marvel is the midst of publishing a 30-comic series, but Hollywood has never managed to bring "The Stand" to the big screen before--let's hope Kloves and Yates can get this done.
