Apple to Release New OS X Lion 10.7, MacBook Air

Apple could launch its new Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and Thunderbolt-equipped MacBook Airs as early as Wednesday.

"According to people with proven track records who would be in a position to know, the new product launches are set to occur later this week. Specifically, one person said the products would be released on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. Eastern," wrote AppleInsider.

OS X Lion will feature "unitasking," kind of mirroring how mobile phones operate and seems to capitalize on the iPad interface -- not necessarily tailoring software for the device, according to Technology Review.

The new MacBook Air will sport new Sandy Bridge processors from Intel, support for Apple's new high-speed Thunderbolt port, a backlit keyboard, limited configuration options to 128GB and 256GB of flash and a standard 4GB of RAM.

Some are worrying that Apple's recent mishandling of its Final Cut Pro X, could mean a new "mongrelization" of its software and devices, the Atlantic writes. We think that's the worst-case scenario -- and even if it is a case of mediocre software or machines, Apple will realize this as sales fall. Apple is a company out to make a profit. If its decisions make it unprofitable, then it will quickly change them.
