Apple to Offer Gold iPad

Apple will offer a gold iPad in hopes of boosting its flagging full-size iPad shipments, reports say.

Apple's new 9.7-inch iPads, will feature a new gold color choice for the rear metal cover, according to Bloomberg News. The news comes from unnamed sources which says that Apple wants the iPad colors to mirror those for the iPhone 5s. Apple declined to comment on the story.

Why gold? Apparently Apple thinks it's a moneymaker, and it is -- at least in Asia. When faced with declining sales, Apple may have decided to make the iPad a little more attractive -- or at least different so that consumers might want to buy a new one. iPads accounted for $30 billion of sales in 2012 and $32 billion in 2013.

One of the reasons the iPad is becoming less popular is because iPhones are also getting bigger, such as the new iPhone 6 Plus. Bloomberg also reports this may change as Apple develops a larger, 12.9-inch iPad which is likely to be launched in 2015.
