Facebook Adds ‘Expecting Baby' to Life Events

Much like eating a 78-ounce steak to get a free meal, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should do it. Either way, announcing that you're expecting a baby is now a Facebook Timeline option.

Hopefully, users will still do the round of phone calls, FaceTime, a dinner party or some human interaction before blaring that they're breeding to their social audience.

And even after posting it, only 16 percent (on average) of a user's followers will see the post, so the Share button gets really important.

Facebook announced the new option Monday, on its Newsroom page. The announcements are also viewable from the Celebrations section on a user's homepage.

Life events are easy and expressive ways to mark significant moments in your life such as getting married, buying a house or traveling to new places. If you choose to, you can now share that you are expecting a baby with your friends on Facebook.

(Also, on the Celebrations page, there's a help link for not seeing a friend's engagements and/or marriages announcement -- which kind of belies the notion that FB-stalking exes is one of its underlying features.)
