Facebook Enters Gift Card Business

Facebook is now in the gift card business, so if you want to send a gift card to a handful of businesses, the social network will send the new Facebook Card to your friend's doorstep.

Previously, Facebook launched Facebook Gifts, which lets users send gifts to their Facebook friends' homes. So it's not surprising that Facebook is now letting users send Facebook gift cards to their friends, too. The reusable cards can be used at Jamba Juice, Olive Garden, Sephora and Target, according to Facebook.

The only different part about this card is that it can be loaded again at any time. So, if there's another holiday, you can send a monetary gift, and the friend will be notified and the money will be automatically loaded onto the card in his or her wallet. Not bad, because it differentiates itself from the run-of-the-mill disposable gift card. It also can hold multiple balances at any of the four places it's currently used.

The Facebook Card is a natural progression from Facebook Gifts, and possibly may be a popular one provided Facebook gets more retailers and restaurant chains on board.
