Spotify Starts ‘Private Listening' on Facebook

Apparently  customers were so angry about their music listening habits made public on Facebook, Spotify decided to change its policy and allow a private listening mode,  Spotify founder Daniel Ek said.

"We're rolling out a new client as we speak where you can temporarily hide your guilty pleasures. It works like a browser's private mode," he posted on Twitter Thursday. "We call it 'private listening' and you can find it in the Spotify/File menu and toggle it on/off."

New Spotify users must access the music service on Facebook, and as presented at Facebook's developer conference f8, it would announce all your listening habits to friends. But there has been serious pushback, including tweets to Ek, according to Forbes.

We think this means users don't want their friends to know they listen to Spice Girls, Julio Iglesias, Rick Springfield or other cheesy recording artists. As Rasmus Otto wrote to Ek, "Finally I can play Justin Bieber without the world knowing."
