Home of the Free and Land of Slow Internet

You would think the home of Twitter, Facebook, Google and a host of other leading tech companies would be home to the world's fastest Internet.

But not so.

Nevermind Google's Kansas City, Kansas project. As a whole, Internet speeds in the United States are slow -- really slow -- compared to several other countries across the world.

Not only does the United States not have the fastest Internet in the world, it also doesn't have the second fastest or even the 24th fastest for that matter.

The slowest average speed of 318 kilobytes per second, the United States has the 25th fastest Internet in the world. Just behind Hungary.

And the American state starving the most for fast Internet speeds in Idaho. The fastest: Rhode Island.

Maybe Google should consider sharing some of that Kansas City speed here at home.
