iPad 3 Delayed until 2012: Reports

Well, there go the holidays (for tablet buyers). Reports from The Wall Street Journal point to a delay in production of the Retina Displays, rumored to be a top selling point and feature of the iPad3.

Maybe the ridiculously high-res screens will be around in time for the Super Bowl? Unlikely, since both versions of the iPad have launched or pre-ordered in March.

Apple's fall retail push will fall to the iPhone 5, expected to launch in September.

The iPad 3's Retina is expected to showcase a 2048 x 1536 display, compared to the 1024 x 768 in the iPad 2. The screen size stays the same at 9.7 inches.

Many suppliers in the pipeline adhere to Apple's tight-lipped approach to product and other business chatter, but one person did tell WSJ: "Suppliers will ramp up production and try to improve the yield rate for the new iPad in the fourth quarter before its official launch in early 2012."

Just in time for high-res pics of the cherry blossoms in DC, or SF Giants' Opening Day.
