“No Mental Reservations”

Well, we got that straight. While taking the oath of office from California's new chief justice, Gov. Jerry Brown's voice caught a little bit on the promise that he was taking the oath "without mental reservations." The crowd laughed, and so Brown repeated, in a humorous tone, "no mental reservations." That got a big laugh and applause. After all, who would haven't some reservations about taking the governorship of a state many consider ungovernable?

This isn't a Hollywood administration. Anne Gust Brown, the governor's wife (and according to this blog report, his new chief of staff), took the stage and admitted she couldn't see the audience because of the bright lights. "I can't see any of you," she said.
