No School This Week in LA?

This would normally be the first week of school in Los Angeles.

But nothing is normal in California anymore.

One big casualty of the persistent budget crisis in the state is school time. Even though studies show that giving students more time with teachers is crucial to academic progress, budget cuts have led to reduction in school time.

The Los Angeles Unified School District is just one of the districts that has shortened the school year. In LA, that's one reason why school doesn't start the week of Labor Day this year. Instead, school begins a week late. The LA Times explains all the details here.
