Raising Cash the Old-Fashioned Way

Michaele Salahi, the party crasher turned reality TV star, is going to auction off the infamous red sari she wore to that White House State Dinner last November.

You remember Salahi. She’s a cast member of the upcoming “Real Housewives of D.C.” who got into so much trouble along with her husband when they were photographed with a number of VIP guests during the event even though they were not on the official guest list.

Salahi told AP Radio something good should come out of the dress. Besides, it’s not as if she can ever wear it again. So, she plans on raising money for victims in Haiti and people living with multiple sclerosis.

It’s not a novel idea – auctioning off items to raise cash. So this got us thinking. What could California auction off to raise a little dough?

Hair gel from San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom’s collection?

Clumps of hair from both Barbara Boxer and Carly Fiorina in a lovely frame?

Or what about something with real potential value -- like a ballot used by Meg Whitman pre-2009?

If you’ve got an idea for something you’d pay real money for -- and we mean real money, not the $1600 Schwarzenegger got for his signature on an old Ford Focus -- send it to us via Twitter @PropZero.
