D23 Expo: Mouse-tastic Details Arriving Now

The Anaheim-based, everything-Disney convention has begun to reveal what's ahead for the summer gathering.

GRABBING A MAP... as you scoot through the turnstile at the entrance to Disneyland Park? Thousands do it each and every day. And, yes, even if you know exactly where Space Mountain is, and what time the Dole Whip stand opens near Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room, you still might need a brush-up on what special events are on the roster, what time the latest parade will happen, and if there's anything new that's sprung up, with all the energy of Tigger, since your last visit to Anaheim. The same pretty much goes for D23 Expo, the every-two-years, super-mega-Mouse-mondo convention that celebrates all things Disney (and we do mean super-mega-Mouse-mondo). It's in Anaheim, of course, at the Disneyland Resort-adjacent Anaheim Convention Center, and, unlike years gone by, it'll be happening a skosh earlier in the summer in 2017, so don't look to your August calendar, look to July. That's the middle of July, to be specific, July 14 through 16, and the early tidbits and peeks are already rolling out.

SO GRAB A PROVERBIAL MAP, or at least, in your mind, begin to plot your course through the convention halls. What's new? The D23 Fan Lounge, "which will be located in the heart of the show floor," will pay homage, through the decor, to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, one of the most vintage and vivacious characters in the Walt Disney family. And "Nine New Disney Legends" will be honored over the course of the weekend, including Oprah Winfrey, Julie Taymor, Stan Lee, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. (Can you name the first person to receive the honor? You're exactly right, it was actor Fred MacMurray, of lovable "The Shaggy Dog" fame, among others, back in 1987.) As D23 Expo is only three months out, as of this typing, look for reveals aplenty in the coming weeks. Reveals, of course, that will help you fill out your own personal map to this ultimate Disney fan gathering.
