Dance Day Shimmies in Santa Barbara

DANCE DAY 2011: How will you be marking International Dance Day this year? We're sure you have your plans -- maybe a ballroom class, or perhaps you'll be catching up on your DVR'd dancing-based reality shows -- and we certainly don't want to tangle, or tango, rather, with your April 29. That is indeed the date of Dance Day, but on Saturday, April 30, several dancers will be taking to State Street in Santa Barbara to engage in some engaging public performance. Lovely moves, ballet leaps, arm twirls, and toe points could definitely be on display.

SHOPS TO STREET: Several dance groups will appear along the busy shop street from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 30. If you head for the Paseo Nuevo fountain, or the Mercado Steps, you're bound to see bounding, but bet if you're somewhere between Anapamu and Ortega you'll see some shaking it. Maybe someone'll do the snake for an hour or two, or some serious disco. Whatever style of dance is your favorite to watch, here's another thing you're sure to like: This is all free. Dance dance dance, Santa Barbara. Dance dance dance.
