Freeway Closure Inspires Hotel Deals

The word "staycation" has appeared more frequently in summers past, but it has made a big return thanks to the closure of the large swath of the 405 on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17. Here are a few of the hotels around SoCal offering Carmageddon-related packages and specials.

SLS HOTEL AT BEVERLY HILLS: The swankery has a few 405 Staycation Packages going. The room package begins at $405 for the night and includes breakfast for two people at the hotel's own Tres restaurant. The valet is gratis, too. There will be asterisks and to-know and such, so contact SLS for the details (oh, and note that the code you'll need is FREEWAY). There are also a few deals at the SLS Hotel's Ciel Spa; the 15-minute scalp, neck, and shoulder massage for $40.50 sounds like what a lot of people will be needing over the 405-closure weekend.

HOTEL PALOMAR: Westwood is oh-so-close to the 405, but if you need to stay near the freeway -- perhaps you need to be right there once it reopens -- note that the Palomar has a two-night deluxe package starting at $239. That also includes a $40.05 dining credit. We're loving all the $4.05s and $40.05s popping up hither and yon.

SANTA MONICA: 405-related deals and such are available at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows, The Georgian and Shutters on the Beach, which is has a $405 offer for an overnight at the hotel. There are several deals around the freeway-close city, and not just at the inns, either. Here's they are in one handy round-up. Thanks, Santa Monica!

NEWPORT BEACH: A number of water-close inns are getting into the swing of the weekend. The Balboa Bay Club & Resort, the Fairmont Newport Beach, and The Resort at Pelican Hill are just three of the properties offering specials. Eye the full roster.
