Girl Scout Cookie Desserts at OC Restaurant Week

The big to-do is still a ways off, but an announcement brings good news for Thin Mint mavens.

    Girl Scout Cookies
That March classic, the Girl Scout cookie, will appear in several desserts during OC Restaurant Week in early 2016.

THE REAL QUESTION, each and every March, is not if you'll consume some Girl Scout Cookies, or how many cookies you'll eat, or the variety of flavors you'll munch down upon, but this: What sort of creative desserts are out there incorporating the once-a-year, eat-'em-now nummies, and how do you find them? This isn't an empty errand, given the fact that, in recent years, a number of high-end restaurants have begun to incorporate special Girl Scout Cookie-themed desserts on their springtime seasonal menus. Picking them all out, and trying them, one by one, can be a bit of a task, but it looks like OC Restaurant Week is about to simplify this for the cookie cravers among us. It was just announced that the March event, which runs from Sunday, March 6 through Saturday, March 12, will feature "select restaurants" offering "delicious desserts inspired by and featuring Girl Scout Cookies!" Even sweeter than the taste of the desserts is the news that several Orange County-based Girl Scouts will get to sample the desserts ahead of time and meet the chefs who created them, which, of course, means good things as the girls "strive to earn culinary and business badges." Cute stuff, and Thin Mint mavens and Do-Si-Dos devotees can have their Girl Scout Cookie desserts and save money, too. Because, of course...

PRIX FIXE DEALS rule Restaurant Week, and they'll be plentiful among the 100+ participating eateries, eateries that include Fig & Olive of Newport Beach, Maro Wood Grill in Laguna Beach, and Newport Rib Company in Costa Mesa. Lunches will be priced at $10, $15, and $20, and dinners land at four price points, from $20 to $50. New in 2016? A few posher places are going to try out an $80 prix fixe menu, for that extra-luxe experience. There's a lot going on during the week, for sure, with some 30 new restaurants being added for the next go-around. Not every restaurant will offer every price point, and not every place'll offer a Girl Scout Cookie dessert, so check ahead if you want to confirm. But as far as confirmations go, early March 2016 is your time to try new dishes and save dough around Orange County.
