New: Tanaka Farms Fall Harvest Tour

Try seasonal veges, visit the corn maze, and enjoy autumnal activities at the Irvine grower.

AUTUMN STILL HAS A MONTH TO GO, and no calendar will tell you differently. In fact, Thanksgiving remains a fortnight away at this typing, and fall itself is not even 2/3 done. But the tinsel and holly and poinsettias showing up here and there and everywhere tell us a different story, that fall is flying as fast as a swirl of leaves in a sudden gust. And there shall be time to enjoy the baubles and gimgracks of the sparkliest season, of course, and that time is soon. But for now, fall fans will have a few more chances to revel in corn mazery and the choosing of a pumpkin and a sunshiny Saturday out on a farm. For Tanaka Farms of Irvine has a new to-do on for 2016, and it happens to have "fall" in its very name. It's the Fall Harvest Tour, and it is welcoming gourd-gushy people and those who adore all autumnal vegetables on a guided tour. The tours are on through...

SUNDAY, DEC. 11, which is, yes, one of the last weekend days of the mellowest season. Tractor-pulled wagons are at the ready, so hop aboard for a ride, while a chance to "sample seasonal vegetables" gives cuisinaires the freshest tastes of what's growing. The U-Pick Veggie Patch is still open, as is the corn maze, as is the pumpkin patch, which holds a not-too-challenging challenge for you: Pick out a pumpkin to leave with. The one caveat? It should be 20 pounds or under, so keep that in mind as you stroll among the step-topped wonders of autumn. There's still time to bask in the leaf-and-squash stretch, if it happens to be your favorite moment on the calendar, so make for Irvine and one more autumn-sweet deep breath. Tour cost? It's eighteen dollars, fall fans.
