San Diego Sicilian Festival

SICILIAN SOIREE: Some street parties don't seem to take to the streets, but the San Diego Sicilian Festival truly occupies its Little Italy location in grand and celebratory fashion. The Sicilian Flag Procession, the dance troupes, the food stalls, and the entertainment stage are all staples of the springtime party, as are celebrity appearances. And the celebrity for 2011? Why none other than Giada de Laurentiis; the chef will be doing a demo and book signing. The date for all the convivialities is Sunday, May 22. And the price? Free. Food and extras are additional, but we like that the kid rides are also free for the day.

ALSO PERFORMING: The Roman Holiday Ensemble, Peter Pavone, and the Screaming Primas are all on the roster (just to name a couple of acts); the cultural area will feature photos of Sicily and model boat building and more. You'll want to plan your parking ahead of time, or, better yet, take the Trolley; the fest recommends doing so, and has more tips here.
