The Highlights of D23 Expo

GEAR UP: We know. Just when you finally stowed all of your Comic-Con totes and your favorite walking shoes and your autograph books another huge convention, full of movies and stars and displays and books, comes along. It's D23 Expo, which is billed as the ultimate Disney fan experience, and it last happened in 2009. Which means that if you're thinking of going next year, you might want to try for now. And by now we mean Friday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 21. It's happening at the Anaheim Convention Center. Which happens to be across the street from Disneyland. Ohhh! Okay. Now we're on it. Yep. Get it. What? Goofy can prank around and we can't? Goofy's an idol. What he does we're so doing. End of story.

FAN FUN: We already gave a heigh-ho for a lot of the stars set to show -- hi, Dick Van Dyke! -- but let's look at some of the other interesting things on the big schedule. On the Friday schedule: A History of the Disneyland Hotel, a Pixar shorts screening, and an it's a small world celebration. On the Saturday roster: artist demos, a look at what's ahead for Disney's California Adventure, and a tribute to the legends of Imagineering. And Sunday? Get ready for a Marvel segment, a John Lasseter-hosted sneak peek at the new Cars Land, and vintage Disneyland footage. Times will vary, so read all. You've done a big con before, you know about the prep work.
