The Solvang Wine About

One of the Christmasiest cities in the country throws a vino weekend.

NOT A SHOCKER: When Time released its recent list of "The 9 Most Christmassy Towns in America" it wasn't a huge surprise to come across the town at number five. Hints: windmills, aebleskivers, Hans Christian Andersen, more windmills, windmill motifs, windmills on clothing, and, oh, that's right, the name is in the headline of this piece. Solvang, of course, isn't just about lovely Danish icons and delicious, any-time-of-the-day pastries; it happens to be cheek-by-jowl (or windmill-by-vineyard) with Santa Ynez, meaning there are great wineries in every direction, and a host of fine tasting rooms right in town. A dozen of those "tasting stops" will be pouring their tastiest on Saturday, Dec. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 18. It's the Solvang Holiday Wine About, one of the premier events of the city's annual Julefest celebrations.

PARTICIPANTS: Dascomb Cellars, Presidio Vineyard & Winery, and Wandering Dog Wine Bar make up three of the twelve stops. The two-day passport is forty bucks, and reserving in advance is highly recommended. Wine, Solvang, and Christmas? Glittery, glittery, glittery. Oh, and on a side note, check out what made the number two spot on Time's Christmassy Town's list. Oh yeah.
