Clip-Clopping in Death Valley

GET-OUT-OF-THE-HOUSE ADVENTURE: It's going to be any day now when people start to feel a bit too cooped-up. Not that we don't all love being with family -- although there have been one or two comedic movies made on that topic -- and it isn't that we all don't want to lounge around drink nog every hour, on the hour. But being outdoors again, especially after a very rainy spell, and moving, and having some adventure, is appealing more than usual right about now.

HOLIDAY AVAILABILITY: The Ranch at Furnace Creek has a note up that some rooms are still available over Christmas and New Year's -- sweet -- and, of course, there are tons of things to do at the Death Valley oasis. Like the one- and two-hour trail rides, which are led by guides who know the area well. The two-hour trips go into low hills at the base of the famous and haunting Funeral Mountains. Start 2011 with a bit of derring-do and get-out-ness, we say.
