NBC4's Vikki Vargas Kicks off Essentials Donation Drive for Homeless in OC

Vikki Vargas, NBC4 Orange County Bureau Chief, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at HomeAid’s 8th Annual Essentials For Young Lives donation drive kick-off luncheon. The event brings together elected officials and corporate and community partners to kick off the campaign to collect diapers and other essential item that will be donated to homeless shelters. The event will be held Pathways of Hope in Fullerton.

HomeAid’s donation drive, led by Honorary Chair Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and in partnership with the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, will collect diapers and other items for babies from May 1 – 10, 2015. NBC4 Southern California has also provided a contribution to HomeAid to support programs helping families in need.

Items collected will be distributed among providers who operate transitional housing facilities built in partnership with HomeAid Orange County and serve homeless families. Essentials donations enable recipient agencies to save the funds normally spent on diapers, baby wipes, etc. for use on programs to help individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency and to lead productive, independent lives.

In eight years, the donation drive has grown from collecting 200,000 in the first year, to over 1.2 million diapers and 2.14 million wipes in 2014.

Donation drop off locations will be located throughout Orange County, including the YMCA and County of Orange public libraries. A complete list of drop off locations and additional information about the donation drive is available at www.homeaidessentials.org.
