14K Attend SKECHERS Pier-to-Pier Walk Raising $1.5M for Children With Special Needs

Thousands in Manhattan Beach had an attitude of gratitude as momentum grew for the ninth annual SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk Monday.

A sea of people near the ocean from all walks of life came together for a common cause: to raise money for children with special needs and education.

"We have education foundations from all over the South Bay here," said Carla Persell, Hermosa Beach Education Foundation.

The Laker Girls even made an appearance, rallying the crowd.

NBC4 Anchors Michael Brownlee and Carolyn Johnson put a pep in their step and got the crowd pumped.

Supporters marched along a foggy 3.4 -mile route with the Hermosa Beach Pier in the distance.

As many as 14,000 people including families and children attended.

The SKECHERS Foundation managed to raise more than $1.5 million to support children with special needs, benefiting The Friendship Foundation.

"They're learning about community, charity and that they're not the only ones in this world," said Mireya Morales-Muro, who attended with her family.
