Corey Haim Used “Doctor Shopping” to Score Hundreds of Pills: Report

California AG: Haim used 7 doctors, 7 pharmacies to score 553 prescription pills

Actor Corey Haim obtained 553 prescription pills illegally in the three months before his death, according to the California Attorney General's Office.

Between Feb. 2 and March 5, Haim obtained more than 195 tablets of Valium, 194 tablets of Soma, 149 tablets of Vicodin and 15 tablets of Xanax, according to a report from the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement.

"He died five days later," said Attorney General Jerry Brown. "It's important for people to understand that legal, prescribed drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs, and doctor shopping can be deadly."

Haim visited seven different doctors and seven different pharmacies to obtain the pills, according to the report. He also reportedly used at least one alias to obtain the meds.

Haim, who found early fame in such films as "The Lost Boys" and "License to Drive," died on March 10. The actor struggled with drugs throughout his life. Haim was also suffering from flulike symptoms before his death.

Coroner's officials have said they found four prescriptions in Haim's name in the apartment where he collapsed, and all were prescribed by a doctor treating the actor.

Brown is running for California Governor.
