Former Iron Maiden Drummer Clive Burr Dies at 56

Clive Burr, the former drummer of Iron Maiden, died on Tuesday at the age of 56.

Bandmates took to their official Facebook page to make the annoucement on Wednesday.

“This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us," said Maiden founder Steve Harris. "He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out."

Burr was born on March 8, 1957, in London, England. Before joining Iron Maiden in 1979, he was a member of another British metal band, Samson.

He worked on three of the Iron Maiden's albums — 1980's self-titled debut, "Killers" and "The Number of the Beast" — before exiting the group in at the end of 1982, according to Rolling Stone Magazine.

Burr had been suffering from multiple sclerosis and died in his sleep, the Facebook post said.
