Jennifer Garner Opens Up About Her ‘Modern Family' With Ben Affleck

Though the couple split in the summer of 2015, Garner and Affleck continue to cohabitate in Los Angeles as they co-parent their kids

Jennifer Garner is opening up about her relationship with Ben Affleck.

"We are definitely a modern family," Garner said Thursday on NBC's "Today" show.

For the first time since her much talked about Vanity Fair profile was published earlier this year, the "Nine Lives" actress spoke in detail about the state of her marriage to Affleck. Though the couple split in the summer of 2015, Garner and Affleck continue to cohabitate in Los Angeles as they co-parent their kids: Violet, 10, Seraphina, 7, and Samuel, 4.

Earlier this summer, the family traveled to Europe, sparking rumors the pair had reconciled.

"Ben was working in London on 'Justice League' and I felt like, 'Well, the kids should have that experience,'" Garner, 44, explained. "He and I are great friends and we just all went en masse."

"Today's" Natalie Morales said it's "really admirable" how the exes "put the children first" and are still a "team" post-breakup.

"You don't have a choice," Garner said. "It has to be."

Though their new normal might look unusual to some, Garner said the family is "doing really well."

Family has always been a priority for Garner and she said it's the main reasons she wanted to star in "Nine Lives," in theaters Friday.

"Parenting is about...you can't buy parenting, no matter what," the actress said. "You have to actually get down on the floor and spend some time together."
