Actors always say it's just an honor to be nominated for a major award. In fact, they don't need a big trophy when there are just so many talented people in their categories.
But is this team spirit and friendly competition for real? If you ask Johnny Depp, the answer is absolutely yes.
As the actor begins to receive Oscar buzz for his latest movie "Black Mass," Depp is making it clear that awards aren't his priority.
"I don't want to win one of those things ever, you know," he told BBC's Newsbeat. "They gave me one of those things, like a nomination, two or three times. A nomination is plenty."
Depp has been up for an Oscar thanks to his memorable roles in "Finding Neverland," "Sweeney Todd" and the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" film.

As to why he doesn't want to walk away with a trophy, the answer may surprise you.

"I don't want to have to talk," he shared. "The idea of winning means that you're in competition with someone and I'm not in competition with anybody."
He added, "I just stick to my guns and do what I want to do. Sometimes people don't like it but that's alright."
"Black Mass" tells the story of crime boss Whitey Bulger (Depp) who becomes an FBI informant to take down a Mafia family invading his turf. The movie is in theaters now.
