Mariah Carey was a judge on "American Idol" for one season and the singer left little doubt she would consider ever returning for an encore gig Wednesday.
During an interview for New York's Hot 97 radio station to promote her new single "The Art of Letting Go," the pop star was quizzed over her time on the Fox reality talent competition.
"Honestly, I hated it," Carey answered. "I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. They gave me a nice dangling monetary moment, and I was just like, 'Okay. Randy Jackson will be there; I've known him forever. He used to play bass for me. Like, this isn't a big deal. This will be nothing.' But it wasn't that. It was like going to work every day in hell with Satan."
Throughout her time on the show Carey publicly feuded with fellow judge Nicki Minaj, though Minaj's name was never mentioned during her on-air interview. The pair had several heated debates during both the "Idol" audition episodes and the live shows. In May, Minaj took to Twitter to call Carey "insecure" and "bitter."
Carey then laughed off her comparison and downplayed her initial statement telling host Angie Martinez, "Naw, I'm just playing. It didn't affect me that much. I was disappointed." What she did love, Carey then insists, were the contestants.
Focusing on her own music for now, Carey said she has no plans to revisit her role as a judge on a televised talent show. "I like being in the studio better and going on my own tours, etc., so we're going back to that."
Season 15 of "American Idol" hits screens in January and will see returning judge Keith Urban team with Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr., and Randy Jackson taking on a mentor role.
