In the battle of the weekend box office, aliens are poised to do better than an animated chameleon.

Battle: Los Angeles,” the sci-fi movie in which a platoon led by a Marine seargent (played by Aaron Eckhart) faces off against an alien invasion, is expected to possibly make over $38 million this weekend, said The Hollywood Reporter. It made about $13.5 million on Friday and opened in 3,417 theatres across the country.

Coming in second place is “Rango”--the Gore Verbinski animated movie featuring the voice of Johnny Depp as the title character--which netted $5.4 million in its second Friday.

Rounding out the top five are “Red Riding Hood,” starring Amanda Seyfried, with an estimated $5 million for Friday--and could make $18 million to $20 million by the weekend.

The Matt Damon vehicle, “The Adjustment Bureau,” which made about $3.4 million on Friday, held fourth place.

Finally, Disney’s “Mars Needs Moms” took in a $1.7 million so far, a number described by The Hollywood Reporter as “dismal,” since the movie cost $150 million to make.
